Microsoft Windows is the most popular operating system available today, and that is a given. However, Mac OS X holds a serious amount of potential for future development. This article has nothing to do with which system is better than the other, but, instead, it is focused on which system offers developers the most potential to generate revenue. Mac OS X is ripe for fantastic and innovative software development, and it is, unquestionably, a serious place for developers who want to make those Benjamins.

Research In Motion (RIM), the very company that brought us the BlackBerry, has firmly stated that the company plans to push forward against Apple amidst frustrated investors who don’t see eye to eye. While sacrificing recently earned profits, the company plans on developing new products to compete with Apple’s iPhone.

What’s a great operating system without amazing applications? Well, the answer is obvious, but, thankfully, Mac OS X has no shortages in that regard. Time and time again, I end up downloading a new application that just blows my mind. Not only are there so many great applications, but they are all quality applications as well. I wanted to take this time to share with you all some of my favorites.

An 8 MHz processor, 128 KB DRAM, 400 kB floppy disk drive, and 9-inch 512 x 342 monochromatic pixel display rounded out the Macintosh 128K. It was the first of its kind, and, as such, it was the first computer to feature a graphical-user-interface and mouse. All of this could have been yours for $2,495 in 1984. Well, we have all come a long way since then.

Crowds were cheering at today’s “Stevenote” during the 2008 Worldwide Developers Conference. The event has revealed many truths to rumors that have been surfacing for weeks now. Steve Jobs gave quite the show, and there was even a performance of “It’s a Small World” before the most significant announcements. Not too many surprises, but still an impressive showing.

I’ve been using my MacBook for nearly three months now, and, overall, it has been a great experience. However, there is something horribly wrong when you put Mozilla Firefox 3 RC2 and Mac OS 10.5.3 together. To put it simply, the combination of Mozilla products and Mac OS X is wrecking havoc on my recently purchased MacBook.

Twitter, my obsession for the past few weeks, has a bunch of great third-party tools being developed for it as we speak. Twhirl, TweetStats, and MyMileMarker are a few examples of amazing creative ingenuity. There is still much uncharted territory that has yet to be explored. One tool I think that would receive a ton of exposure is a sort of live activity/heat map.

Ars Technica, known for bringing thorough and professional content to the blogosphere, has been acquired by Condé Nast Publications for an estimated $25 million. Nice chunk of change for a blog. Truth be told, I think it was a brilliant move by the company, and I hope they integrate more of the great content on Ars to the Wired.com site.

I have recently installed a nifty application called Desktoptopia, and I am fairly impressed with the usefulness and quality this application provides. It used to be a pay-for application, but now it is free. Desktoptopia essentially gives you the ability to subscribe to pictorial feeds, and with this ability, you can keep your desktop fresh with new and changing content.

Okay, so it is almost an understatement to say that Twitter has become my new obsession. It has simply changed my way of thinking when it comes to the social web. Twitter is a glimpse into the future, and while it isn’t perfect (information overload comes to mind), it is fascinating to be in touch with others.
